FM Broadcast Facilities Planning and Design
Pittsburgh PA
When FCC Regulations significantly altered the playing field for radio broadcast companies, the owner of powerhouse market leader WDVE-FM looked to bring alternative rock station WXDX-FM into its portfolio. The second step included the addition of two other high-profile FM operations.
To maximize economies, the new owner elected to consolidate all broadcast properties at one site. Significant demands were placed on facilities to accommodate additional production and on-air studios, expanded sales and programming personnel required to staff operations without disrupting 24-hour operations.
To dramatically expand the existing facility into a consolidated multi-station, multi-format production and on-air facility that supports integrated operations and accommodates different on-air personalities and formats, a phased implementation and construction approach was needed to minimize interference with on-going broadcast operations current programming.
The project included:
An analysis of workflow and process to ensure maximum productivity while best utilizing limited floor space.
An acoustical design of the new on-air performance and control studios.
A new state-of-the-art digital production control room
