Homeland Security directives require meeting security challenging and surveillance standards within a challenging fast-track timeline.

The new Pittsburgh International Airport security and surveillance system meets those challenges, from land- side pre-screening area, main screening area entry point, entry to and exit from the eight magnetometer machine lanes, three passenger corral areas, down to the passenger tram entries and exits from the secure area. A full-color high-resolution video surveillance system monitors the passenger check-in screening area and baggage screening at the Airport Landside Terminal.

The design delivers virtually instantaneous access to all footage from any camera, even while that camera continues to record. Necessary rapid response to any incident requires that a massive amount of photographic data be selectively accessed from various other locations within the facility, or even from remote off-site settings. Encrypted password security and other design elements assure full network security.

The infrastructure was conceived with a future-proof perspective, supporting subsequent upgrades to add specific motion sensing, face recognition and behavior recognition capabilities.
