PROFESSIONAL GOLFERS’
ASSOCIATION
SHOTLINK Mobile Production Facilities
Advanced Digital Scoring and Statistics Mobile Unit
Jacksonville FL
For viewers raised on the
interactivity of PlayStation and
X-Box, the revolutionary technology
employed by the PGA’s Shotlink
System virtually brings the reality of
professional golf into a viewer’s
living room. Vital information on
every shot, by every player, is now
instantly available in real-time during
tournament competition.
The technology’s developers enlisted The Sextant Group to transform the original
concept into a working, functional, ergonomic solution. Creating this mobile computing,
telecommunications and IT facility posed significant challenges, including the design of
interior, operating and storage systems, plus special-use systems for items that were still
in development. Custom on-board storage and recharging docks for over 200 laptops,
specially-programmed PDA’s and field laser units had to be designed, as well as the
implementation of an appropriate infrastructure to interface with both broadcast media
and internet in real time.
