NEW YORK UNIVERSITY
College of Dentistry
New York NY
To keep New York University’s
College
of Dentistry on the forefront
of education,
the renowned Kriser
Dental Center
sought the ability to
deliver virtual lab
experience to
remote students around
the world.
As part of a multi-year, facilities-wide renovation, the College is strategically moving
toward a digital curriculum. The newly renovated physical space needed to provide the
systems and functional capabilities essential to the creation, dissemination, and
consumption of digital courseware in the virtual world.
Providing consultation, concept development and cost estimates toward the development of a
media streaming solution, The Sextant Group studied the feasibility of integrating media
streaming capability into two new Kriser laboratories. This included the existing
architecture in the context of the College’s intent to implement a broad, digital media
based curriculum, focusing on the ability of the current network to carry real–time audio,
video, and streaming data.
The design, engineering, and specification of a prototype of a college-wide Streaming
Media System would enable the delivery of select instructional sessions on the building
network and enable the capture, storage, and streaming of educational media content to
students and faculty of the College via the Campus Intranet and the NYU Extranet, as well
as to students in otherwise inaccessible settings in China, Africa and other remote
locations.
