ECU's Health Sciences Library functions as an information center, emphasizing the delivery of digital information more than the storage of physical media. A key component of the library is the categorization and archiving of new digital information. The Health Sciences Library also houses shared facilities necessary for the editing and storage of digital media files, to be used by all disciplines within the building for distance learning applications. Due to its status as a “public” facility, the library contains a high level of network connectivity, both wired and wireless.

The new $48M, 300,000 GSF facility serves wide constituency, including students from three schools plus physicians and residents from Pitt County Memorial Hospital. The Allied Health Sciences Library holds a key role in creating the "Learning Village,” facilitating interdisciplinary learning in a highly collaborative environment.
