NANCY STURM
PRINCIPAL CONSULTANT, EDUCATIONAL TRANSFORMATION SPECIALIST
Nancy Sturm is a nationally-recognized thought leader in the application of Educational Technology. As an award-winning educator and education technologist, she brings over 20 years experience in program development, program management and administration, virtual learning & simulation environments and faculty development.
With a life-long calling to motivate students, coach teachers and create transformative academic environments, Nancy's award-winning programs and techniques enable teachers to use classroom technology effectively as a catalyst for maximizing achievement. Her visionary leadership has resulted demonstrated success in creating synergistic environments, breaking down internal silos, and developing innovative pedagogies that drive revenue while championing organizational missions.
While acting as Education Technology Advisor to Governor of the state of West Virginia, Nancy played lead role in the state winning its first "Best of the Web" Award from the Center for Digital Government by creating, designing, and developing a new education portal for all West Virginia citizens.
Nancy's design, development, and launch of the innovative program Classroom Sim was featured in Converge Magazine as the first online simulation game to provide teachers with a venue to practice classroom discipline strategies. This program has now been integrated into Colleges of Education and Professional Development Centers nationwide.
As Executive Director of the Challenger Learning Center in Wheeling WV, Nancy designed, developed, and managed the organization's flagship (and first financially-independent) center by launching the first space simulation delivered through technology. This program was key in growing the company into one of nation's largest and busiest Centers of its kind, and led to a White House invitation to personally brief the President on its successful development and implementation. She was the first Executive Director appointed to the National Board of the Challenger Center of Space Science Education.
During her time at Challenger Center for Space Science Education, Nancy created the professional development model, EdVentures in Simulations: A Great START to the 21st Century, which was implemented in Challenger Learning Centers across the country. The program enables teachers nationwide to utilize cognition learning environments.
Nancy earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of Northern Iowa and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Iowa. She was named Iowa's Science Teacher of the Year for her creative, innovative approach to teaching science via project-based, situation cognition learning environment. She has also served as Director of Education Strategy for Polyvision Corp, a TurnAround CEO for the Challenger Learning Center of Arizona, winner of the Challenger Learning Center Achievement Award for eight consecutive years, and Avermedia's corporate liaison with the State Education Technology Directors Association (SETDA).
