BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND EDUCATION

As Technology Becomes Ever More Interwoven Into The Fabric of
Academic Life, Strategic Technology Consulting Firm Hires
Ohio State Educational Technologies Expert

PITTSBURGH PA, COLUMBUS OH, MAY 31, 2011 - As the world of education continues to evolve, brick-and-mortar institutions are incorporating digital curricula and emerging technologies into their classrooms in ways many could never have imagined. To further support technology and pedagogy connections, the national independent consulting firm The Sextant Group has hired a key instructional technologies thought leader from The Ohio State University Office of Information Technology.

Senior Consultant Kevin Givler CTS, CSI brings unparalleled credentials in the planning and design of media-rich classrooms of every type, particularly business schools. Most recently Director of Educational Technologies for the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, he offers recognized expertise in all phases of design, specification, construction and conformance testing of electronic, audiovisual, and communications systems for higher education. Five years into operations, the Fisher complex is still considered one of the nation's top educational technology showcases.

Having worked on both sides of the shortlist interview table, Kevin intimately understands the relationships between technology and pedagogy, plus speaks the language of both architects and educators. During his 30 years with OSU, he served as university-provided design consultant on several large scale university capital projects, and was also responsible for executing technology upgrades to hundreds of classroom facilities across campus. In addition, his own consulting firm Givler Technical Services contributed to the design of facilities from New Orleans Children's Hospital to Concordia University's Molson School of Business in Montreal.

"Kevin is unique in that he understands the role of technology in the overall process of education and how they can support each other," says Mark Valenti, CEO of The Sextant Group. "He understands the transformation that is occurring in education -- how technology is impacting it, and how to enable faculties to take advantage of these changes. Kevin's three decades of success at Ohio State is a testimony to his leadership across that landscape."

Givler is co-author and co-presenter of "Tools of the Trade, The State-of-the-Art and Future Classroom Technology" with President and CEO Mark S. Valenti at the 2005 No Name Educational Facilities Conference.

Kevin has been certified by InfoComm International as a Certified Technology Specialist (CTS), and is a member of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) of Building and Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI). Additional honors include The Center for Teaching Excellence Outstanding Staff Award and The Ohio State University Outstanding Staff Award.

"I'm excited to join The Sextant Group because of its talented group of people and reputation in the industry," said Givler. "Having worked firsthand with Mark and his team, I can say that their commitment to excellence is unparalleled in the industry."
